The countdown begins

The wait is finally getting over, Ranthambhore National Park would reopen for visitors & wildlife enthusiasts on Oct 1 2011. Rain gods have been kind this year & all the major lakes and water bodies are completely full, something to cheer about as this would ensure the year's supply of water to its occupants.

Sharing some relevant information for people planning to visit the park this season:

Safari can be done through Cantor (open bus) or Gypsy (6-seater) on 8 predesignated routes. A fixed number of gypsies and cantors are allowed on each route therefore in order to avoid any inconvenience book in advance. Safari charges have been increased for visitors eff. 1’Oct, do check the same before booking.

Weather in Oct would be pleasant, the temperature would range between 29 degrees (max)- 6 degrees (min), it is advisable to carry adequate winter clothing from Oct- Feb as the temperature inside the forest is at least 2-3 degrees lesser than the outside temperature.
One can always ask for an additional blanket from your hotel/ resort, especially during the morning safari.

In case you are a first-time visitor, the following information can help you plan your trip better:

It is advised to plan your trip well in advance during this period as this is peak tourism season. While a lot of visitors prefer safari by gypsy, it is difficult to get one during this until booked well in advance.

Safari tickets can either be booked through online booking or through the hotel you are staying in.
Do carry the original id proofs at the time of the visit, you would be required to produce the same at the time of entry inside the park.
There are no canteens inside the park, unlike some other parks in the country that do carry sufficient water for safari.
No eatables are allowed inside the park during the safari, but you can carry infant food/ snacks for children.
Prefer wearing earth colour clothes during safari & observe complete silence during the safari.
Do not use flash while clicking pictures of wild animals as not only it disturbs them but also the usage of flash is prohibited.
Vehicles travel on predesignated routes allotted by the forest department; in case you get the same route again you can request for change of route by submitting an application at the tourism office along with a copy of your previous boarding pass(mandatory).

For more information on safari routes, please check the ‘Ranthambhore maps & tiger info’ page.

Walking inside the park, stepping out of the vehicle is strictly prohibited.
