Welcome to the Grasslands of Velavadar
Located near Bhavnagar in Gujrat, Blackbuck National Park spans approximately 34 square kilometers and was established in 1976 with the primary aim of conserving the blackbuck antelope. These elegant creatures, especially the males with their striking spiraled horns, are the park’s star attraction. Over 1,800 blackbucks reside in the grasslands of Velavadar. The park’s landscape is characterized by open savannah-like grasslands, seasonal streams, and saline plains, creating an ideal habitat not only for blackbucks but also for blue bulls (nilgai), Indian wolves, striped hyenas, and a remarkable diversity of birds. More than 120 bird species have been recorded here, including migratory birds that arrive in winter.
