Ranthambhore Simplified

I am excited to share information about my favourite national park, Ranthambhore, with you as part of this series. My goal is to provide comprehensive information about the park, including its history, tourist zones, route maps, important places, and the amazing wildlife found within.

This information is not readily available on other blogs, and visitors often have to rely on their safari driver or guide. As a wildlife enthusiast, I understand the need for a one-stop virtual tour guide for first-time visitors.

I have conducted extensive research and consulted with Rais Alam, also known as "Rais Bhai," who has been associated with the park for over 25 years and has a wealth of knowledge about the jungle and its inhabitants. Even if you don't spot a tiger on your safari with Rais, his stories will leave you feeling fulfilled.

Here are some useful facts about Ranthambhore: it was originally a private game sanctuary of the Jaipur Royal Family and was converted into the Sawai Madhopur Sanctuary in 1955. It was included in Project Tiger in 1973 and designated a national park in 1980. The park covers a total area of 1334 sq km, with a core area of 392 sq km.

To reach the park, the nearest railway station is Sawai Madhopur, and the nearest airport is Jaipur, which is 180 km away. Zones 1-5 of the park are closed from July 1 to September 30, and zones 6-10 and the Ganesh temple are open year-round.

If you plan to go on a safari, be sure to book in advance. You must also carry your ID proof with you, which will be checked by forest officials. The park is divided into 10 tourist zones, with routes I to V in the national park and zones VI to X in the reserve forest adjoining the park.

Stay tuned for subsequent blogs with detailed accounts of each zone, route maps, important places, and information on tiger territories. I have included some pictures I took during my previous visits to give you a glimpse of the park's beauty.
