Rajasthan Budget: Tiger Gets Some Perks

The Year 2011 has been declared by United Nations as the ‘International Year of Forests’ in order to increase awareness of sustainable management, conservation and development of all types of forests.

Govt. of Rajasthan too steps in to show its commitment towards the flora and fauna of this desert state.

Key announcements made in the budget speech of 2011-12 today are:

  • Proposed Tiger corridor from Ranthambhore to Mukundara Hills near Kota.
  • Mukundara Hills to be declared as Tiger Reserve.
  • Ranthambhore National Park to get a mobile rescue van along with two full-time vets, a long pending demand.
  • Five thousand families living around the national park will get a subsidy of 1000 on LPG gas connections. This should help reduce the dependency on forests for cooking medium.

While this is surely not everything one could have wished for, if implemented with honesty and political will can surely help in saving our ‘National Animal’.
